Prayer and the Church

Christ Church has a Junior Church, Choir, Band, Prayer Group and Walsingham Cell.

Junior Church: Shining Lights

Shining Lights meets in the Parish Hall at 10:15am on Sunday mornings. The children, who range in age from 3 to 14, are able to take part in a range of activities following a planned series in conjunction with the scheme of the readings in church. There are two groups, for ages 3–5 and 6–14, and they rejoin the Parish Mass in time for a blessing at the altar rail at the Communion.
Details from the Vicar, or Jane Hill on 01323 731301.

Choir of Christ Church

The Choir sings at the Parish Mass and Evensong on Sundays, together with other services on high days and holidays, and weddings and some funerals through the year. Practice is on Thursdays at 7:15pm, with a run-through before each service too. We are re-instituting a junior section which will follow the training scheme of the Royal School of Church Music. Members are sought in all parts, particularly soprano/treble and bass; it does help to be able to read music although some training can be given. The Organist & Choir Director is James Thomas MA FRCO FTCL, telephone 01435 865753.

Band

The Band plays at Family Masses on the first Sunday of each month. In addition to keyboard/piano, drums, guitar and violin, there are a variety of wind instruments, including a recorder consort for quieter music. New members are welcome: come and see us at a Family Mass (click “Future Events” to see when the next one is) or contact the Vicar.

Ecumenical Prayer Group

The Ecumenical Prayer Group meets at 8:00pm on Thursday each week, usually at S Agnes’ Church, Whitley Road. Prayers are offered for the Church, the world, the parish, the sick and those who have died. If you would like prayer offered, please mail the Vicar or leave a private message in the Guestbook (private messages go via the Webmaster). The Vicar can be contacted on 01323 721952.
