James L Thomas MA, GTCL, FRCO, FTCL, LRAM

James Lloyd Thomas has held several teaching positions as well as prestigious organist posts, including Oundle School (as Director of Chapel Music), Shrewsbury Abbey and S Mary’s Bourne Street. He studied the Organ with David Sanger, James Parsons and Margaret Phillips and in 1992 James was a semi finalist in the Paisley International Organ competition. His MA research and performance was concerned with the little known romantics August Ritter and Johann Töpfer.

James has a wealth of experience in teaching, having been Director of Music at Kingston Grammar, Christ College Brecon and recently at St. Leonard’s-Mayfield School. He maintains a busy schedule of recitals and accompaniment. He is also Assistant Course Director of the Oundle International Festival and Summer School. Locally he has recently succeeded David Ollosson as University Organist at the University of Sussex and is conductor of the Sussex Philharmonic and the Sussex University Chamber Choir, as well as Organist/Choirmaster at Christ Church Eastbourne. In addition to working in schools, last year James launched a career as a freelance musician and teacher.

Michael Vidler

The Revd Michael Vidler is the Minister of Penge Baptist Church. He hails originally from Hinckley in Leicestershire where he was organist and choirmaster at Burbage Congregational Church. After 25 years with the then Midland Bank he was called to ministry in 1990, first serving in Kettering.
