Our Aims The aims of Pooh’s Nursery School is central to the following statements:

To ensure that children acquire the necessary skills, concepts and attitudes we bear in mind the following points when planning and implementing the Early Years Curriculum.

Painting It is based upon the principle that young children learn most through play experiences which are the foundation of their learning.

It is accepted that all areas of learning will be interrelated and will be implemented through direct experiences and activities. The choice of activities will also reflect the children’s needs and interestes, and planning is flexible to allow for unexpected opportunities which present themselves. The curriculum is also planned to prepare children working towards and within the framework of the National Curriculum.

Outside on the climbing frame The experiences and materials we offer are designed to reflect the diverse and multicultural society in which we live. A positive attitude towards issues of race, gender or disability, avoiding pre-conceived notions of role expectation is encouraged, promoting kindness and tolerance towards others. The school seeks to create an atmosphere where every child feels secure, valued and confident. We acknowledge parents in their role as children’s prime educators and seek to promote a partnership with them which develops a shared understanding with mutual respect and dialogue. The physical environment is organised with due regard to health and safety, to meet the needs of young children with appropriate space, facilities and equipment.

The school regards the Nursery stage of education as a major phase. We believe that the Nursery should not be regarded as mere preparation for Infant School but should be recognised as the beginning of Early Years education. Continuity and care are therefore essential to the school’s planning at this stage.
